from Mercury Hit A High E.P,
released April 6, 2015
The Last Sound was founded in Dublin by Barry M some time in the late 90s with an aim to produce unashamedly ethereal electronically sequenced songs and instrumentals by using relatively primitive and painstaking means. Despite its questionability, this aim remains intact and has thus far resulted in six albums, three EPs, one single, and numerous other audible things released across many labels both at home and abroad. The prevailing style is overcomplicated and maximal, with a frequent disregard for fidelity. Live instrumentation is used wherever possible and/or appropriate. The occasional contributions of Bryan O'Connell (percussion) and Maria O'Reilly (vocals) have been a key feature over the years.
Barry is also 50% of psychetronic noise conjurers Whirling Hall Of Knives and co-runs Nute Records (plus, until its recent demise, sister label Trensmat). A Lazarus Soul's Mercury Hit A High is the 2nd cover version attempted by The Last Sound (the 1st to be completed) and was mastered to bits by Magnetize.
